What is a pure cremation?

A pure cremation is a simple, dignified funeral from a national, trusted brand that works to the highest standards. There are no funeral director fees to pay and no ceremony at the crematorium. This means the funeral may be much more affordable and means you can arrange any send-off you wish, at a time and place that feels right.

We collect your loved one in our own private ambulances, and bring them into our care at our own state-of-the-art facilities. Everyone has their own brand-new, solid wood coffin. Each person is given a unique ceramic disc that survives the cremation and guarantees the identity of their ashes. The cremation itself takes place at our own crematoria set in acres of beautiful, tranquil parkland, carried out by our award-winning team, who bow to each person before their cremation begins. A Pure Care Companion keeps family informed at every step. Then, we personally hand-deliver the ashes back to you at home in a proper urn, at a time that suits you.

How Pure Cremation supports families in Wolverhampton

We don't have a high-street branch on Dudley Street or a chapel of rest in Tettenhall. What we offer instead is a complete service delivered by our own people, with one point of contact from start to finish, so you never have to repeat yourself.

We have helped thousands of families across the Black Country and South Staffordshire, from Dudley and Walsall to Sandwell and Cannock, and across the city's neighbourhoods, including Tettenhall, Penn, Finchfield, Wednesfield, Bilston and Wombourne.

Our Wolverhampton collection service

Our Wolverhampton collection service covers every part of the city and surrounding boroughs, and is always carried out in our own private ambulances. We come to:

  • Private homes across Wolverhampton and the Black Country and South Staffordshire
  • Hospitals including New Cross Hospital (Wolverhampton Road Heath), Russells Hall Hospital (Pensnett Road, Dudley), Manor Hospital (Moat Road, Walsall), Cannock Chase Hospital (Brunswick Road, Cannock)
  • Nursing homes, residential care homes and hospices throughout the Black Country and South Staffordshire
  • Coroner's facilities, where the coroner is involved

The team was friendly and respectful, making the monthly plan simple to understand. My family knows my wishes, so they can celebrate my life rather than deal with paperwork. It's all done and such a relief. Quote by Sharon.

Where to register a death in Wolverhampton

For deaths within the city of Wolverhampton, you will register at Wolverhampton Register Office, 4-8 North St, Wolverhampton, WV1 1RJ. Appointments can be booked through Wolverhampton City Council.

If your loved one lived in a surrounding borough, you will usually register at their local office instead — for example, Dudley Register Office, Walsall Register Office or Sandwell Register Office. If your loved one died away from home, you can register in the district where they died, or make a declaration at another office.

In England and Wales, a death must be registered within 5 days at the register office for the district where the death occurred. In Scotland, you have 8 days. You can find your local register office through your local council website.

If the death occurred in a hospital or care home, the medical team will usually be able to advise you on the next steps. Our team can also guide you through the process when you call us on 0800 160 18 81.

Local crematoria and service options

Because a pure cremation takes place without a ceremony at the crematorium, families in Wolverhampton do not need to book a time slot for a service. The cremation is carried out at our own crematoria without mourners present.

One of the benefits of choosing a pure cremation is that it takes the pressure off. Firstly, because we take care of all the arrangements. And secondly, because the funeral service doesn't have to happen so quickly, because there's no crematorium ceremony. There is no diary to juggle in the first raw days of grief, no rush to settle on a date before you are ready, and no need to coordinate travel for everyone within a week of losing someone. You have the space to breathe, be with family and let things settle before you start thinking about how you would like to say goodbye.

Many Wolverhampton families choose to arrange a separate send-off at a place of their own choosing — a gathering at home, a favourite pub, a walk through West Park, around the gardens at Wightwick Manor, along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal towpath, or through the grounds of Patshull Park.

Holding a ceremony later, at a place that genuinely mattered to your loved one, often feels far more personal than a short slot at a crematorium. There is no time limit, no set format and no restriction on numbers. You can wait for relatives to travel from further afield, choose the music and readings that truly reflect the person who has died, and share food, stories and laughter in the way they would have wanted — whenever the moment feels right.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They were very respectable and kept me informed from the beginning, right through to bringing Mum back home to me. I couldn't have asked for a more professional, caring service. Quote by Julian.

The cost of a funeral in Wolverhampton

Every quarter, we update the Cost of Funerals Index — Britain's most comprehensive and up-to-date research into the true cost of a traditional funeral. Our latest figures show that the average cost of a traditional funeral in the East-West Midlands is £4,743.

Funeral director fees account for 53% of that total, or around £2,460 on average — and that's before you factor in that costs can vary by more than £3,000 depending on which funeral director you choose, meaning the most expensive funeral directors in the Wolverhampton area could charge well over £7,500 for a traditional funeral. A pure cremation is thousands of pounds less than that.

A fixed price in Wolverhampton you can trust

Because we operate nationally, our prices do not change by postcode — families in Wolverhampton pay the same as families anywhere else in Britain. A pure cremation includes collection in our own private ambulance, care in our own facilities, a brand-new solid-pine coffin, the cremation itself, and the hand-delivery of the ashes in a biodegradable, permanent urn.

Some direct cremation providers advertise low headline prices that don’t include things you might consider essential, such as the return of ashes. On top of the headline price, local providers may also charge extra for mileage or for out-of-hours collection, and it can be genuinely hard to understand what the total cost will be until the bill arrives. With Pure Cremation, you'll know the full price right from the very start. And for families planning ahead, our funeral plan lets you fix today's price.

Pure cremation vs. direct cremation: The important differences

In recent years, many providers have begun to offer what they call a “direct cremation”. A pure cremation and a direct cremation sound similar, but in practice, they can be very different.

With many direct cremation services, you are actually going through a funeral director, so you still pay a funeral director’s fee. Coffins are often low-cost veneer with plastic handles, ashes are commonly returned in a cardboard “temporary container”, and because some providers don’t own their own crematoria, your loved one may be passed on to a third party.

With Pure Cremation, we own every part of the journey. From the moment we collect your loved one to the moment we hand-deliver their ashes back to you, care never changes hands. It is our team, our facilities and our standards throughout — and that is a difference we believe matters.
