What is a pure cremation?

A pure cremation is a simple, dignified funeral from a national, trusted brand that works to the highest standards. There are no funeral director fees to pay and no ceremony at the crematorium. This means the funeral may be much more affordable and means you can arrange any send-off you wish, at a time and place that feels right.

We collect your loved one in our own private ambulances, and bring them into our care at our purpose-built client care facility in Scotland. Everyone has their own brand-new, solid wood coffin (usually cedar), and each person is given a unique ceramic disc that survives the cremation and guarantees the identity of their ashes. We then transport them to the stunning Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium or The Hurlet Crematorium, on a date confirmed with you, where a respectful unattended cremation takes place. A Pure Care Companion keeps family informed at every step. Then, we personally hand-deliver the ashes back to you at home in a proper urn, at a time that suits you.

How Pure Cremation supports families in Falkirk

We don't have a high-street branch on High Street or a chapel of rest in Polmont. What we offer instead is a complete service delivered by our own people, with one point of contact from start to finish, so you never have to repeat yourself.

We have helped thousands of families across the Central Belt, from Stirling and Grangemouth to Bo'ness, Denny and Clackmannanshire, and across the town's neighbourhoods, including Camelon, Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Bainsford, Laurieston and Hallglen.

Our Falkirk collection service

Our Falkirk collection service covers every part of the town and surrounding boroughs, and is always carried out in our own private ambulances. We come to:

  • Private homes across Falkirk and the Central Belt
  • Hospitals including Forth Valley Royal Hospital
  • Nursing homes, residential care homes and hospices throughout the Central Belt
  • Coroner's facilities, where the coroner is involved

Where to register a death in Falkirk

For deaths within the town of Falkirk, you will register at Falkirk Register Office, Falkirk Library, Hope Street, Falkirk FK1 5AU. Appointments can be booked through Falkirk Council.

If your loved one lived in a surrounding borough, you will usually register at their local office instead — for example, Stirling Register Office or Clackmannanshire Register Office in Alloa. If your loved one died away from home, you can register in the district where they died, or make a declaration at another office.

In Scotland, a death must be registered within 8 days at the register office for the district where the death occurred. You can find your local register office through your local council website.

If the death occurred in a hospital or care home, the medical team will usually be able to advise you on the next steps. Our team can also guide you through the process when you call us on 0800 160 18 81.

Where the cremation takes place

Because a pure cremation takes place without a ceremony at the crematorium, families in Falkirk do not need to book a time slot for a service. In Scotland, we transport your loved one to the stunning Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium or The Hurlet Crematorium, on a date confirmed with you, where a respectful unattended cremation takes place without mourners present.

One of the benefits of choosing a pure cremation is that it takes the pressure off. Firstly, because we take care of all the arrangements. And secondly, because the funeral service doesn't have to happen so quickly, because there's no crematorium ceremony. There is no diary to juggle in the first raw days of grief, no rush to settle on a date before you are ready, and no need to coordinate travel for everyone within a week of losing someone. You have the space to breathe, be with family and let things settle before you start thinking about how you would like to say goodbye.

Many Falkirk families choose to arrange a separate send-off at a place of their own choosing — a gathering at home, a favourite pub, a walk through Callendar Park, along the Union Canal towpath by the Falkirk Wheel, around the grounds of Callendar House, or a stroll beside the River Carron at the Kelpies.

Holding a ceremony later, at a place that genuinely mattered to your loved one, often feels far more personal than a short slot at a crematorium. There is no time limit, no set format and no restriction on numbers. You can wait for relatives to travel from further afield, choose the music and readings that truly reflect the person who has died, and share food, stories and laughter in the way they would have wanted — whenever the moment feels right.

We visit every family personally, to give them their loved ones' ashes in a proper urn

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They were very respectable and kept me informed from the beginning, right through to bringing Mum back home to me. I couldn't have asked for a more professional, caring service. Quote by Julian.

The cost of a funeral in Falkirk

Every quarter, we update the Cost of Funerals Index — Britain's most comprehensive and up-to-date research into the average cost of a funeral in the UK. Our latest figures show that the average cost of a traditional funeral in Scotland is £4,718.

Funeral director fees account for 58% of that total, or around £2,713 on average — and that's before you factor in that costs can vary by more than £3,000 depending on which funeral director you choose, meaning the most expensive funeral directors in the Falkirk area could charge over £6,012 for a traditional funeral. A pure cremation is thousands of pounds less than that.

A fixed price in Falkirk you can trust

If you need to arrange a pure cremation for someone now, you'll pay the same fixed price wherever you live. Because we operate nationally, families in Falkirk pay the same as families anywhere else in Britain. A pure cremation includes collection in our own private ambulance, care in our own facilities, a brand-new solid-wood (usually cedar) coffin, the cremation itself, and the hand-delivery of the ashes in a biodegradable, permanent urn. If home collection is needed, this is charged as an additional cost.

Some direct cremation providers advertise low headline prices that don’t include things you might consider essential, such as the return of ashes. On top of the headline price, local providers may also charge extra for mileage or for out-of-hours collection, and it can be genuinely hard to understand what the total cost will be until the bill arrives. With Pure Cremation, you'll know the full price right from the very start. And if you'd rather plan ahead and fix today's price for the future, you can get your bespoke funeral plan quote now.

Pure cremation vs. direct cremation: The important differences

In recent years, many providers have begun to offer what they call a “direct cremation”. A pure cremation and a direct cremation sound similar, but in practice, they can be very different.

With many direct cremation services, you are actually going through a funeral director, so you still pay a funeral director's fee. Coffins are often low-cost veneer with plastic handles, ashes are commonly returned in a cardboard “temporary container”.

With Pure Cremation, there is no funeral director's fee and one team looks after everything, from the first phone call to the hand delivery of the ashes. In Scotland, our own team collects your loved one, cares for them at our own facility and takes them to Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium or The Hurlet Crematorium. The same identity checks, ceramic disc and standard of care apply at every stage — and that is a difference we believe matters.

Pure Cremation compared to funeral directors in Falkirk

Many families searching for a funeral director in Falkirk are looking for exactly what we offer: a calm, respectful and highly skilled team to take care of everything. The difference is how we do it. A traditional funeral director acts as a go-between, arranging the funeral on your behalf and charging their own fee for doing so. With Pure Cremation, there is no funeral director in the chain. You call us directly, and our own team collects, cares for and cremates your loved one, handles the paperwork and arranges the cremation at Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium or The Hurlet Crematorium, then brings them home to you.

For families across Falkirk and the Central Belt, that means one point of contact instead of a chain of businesses, one clear price instead of a list of add-ons, and the same standard of care wherever you are in Falkirk or the Central Belt. It's a simpler way through a difficult time with fewer people involved, less money to pay, and everything coordinated by the same team from your first call to the day the ashes are returned to you by hand.
