A respectful, affordable funeral from a company you can trust

When someone dies, you may feel overwhelmed by all the decisions that need to be made, at a time when you are grieving.

Just one call to Pure Cremation, free on 0800 160 18 81, and we can help take away the stress. Your very own Pure Care Companion can make all the funeral arrangements and keep you informed at every step.

Our complete, award-winning service means we can collect your loved one from home, the hospital or hospice, in one of our private ambulances. Because we have all our own state-of-the-art facilities, they can rest peacefully with us the whole time.

We will tell you when their cremation will take place, which is conducted by our caring, compassionate team at our own crematoria set in beautiful parkland.

After the cremation, we will personally return their ashes to you in a proper urn. Or if you prefer, the ashes can be scattered in our attractive Garden of Remembrance.

A pure cremation saves you over £2,000 compared to a traditional funeral and there’s no ceremony at the crematorium, so you can arrange a more personal service, whenever and wherever you’d like.

  • Much more affordable and now with the option to pay in monthly instalments
  • You can arrange a funeral with us even without having a Pure Cremation funeral plan
  • A Pure Care Companion means you talk to the same person throughout

Would you like a ceremony at the crematorium?

A pure cremation does not include a ceremony at the crematorium. But, if you’d like to attend the cremation, we do offer friends and family the option to come to our own crematoria to hold their own short service if they wish, so they can spend some quiet time with their loved one at the crematorium. The coffin will be placed in the room before they arrive.

There is no Funeral Director or celebrant present and no service. Some families like to play their favourite music or deliver a reading. You are welcome to bring flowers to place on the coffin.

There are options to attend should you wish to. At our own crematoria, prices start from £395 for our smaller rooms (up to 12 people) and from £665 for our larger ceremonial halls (up to 100 people). Where we use partner crematoria (for example in Scotland) the cost is £995 to attend.

Please note, if your loved one needs collecting from a home rather than a hospital, there is an additional collection charge of £260.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a pure cremation and a traditional funeral?

There are two key differences between a pure cremation and a traditional funeral. Firstly, with a pure cremation we take care of everything – so there’s no funeral director and so no funeral director fees to pay (which can be as much as 60% of the cost for a traditional funeral). A pure cremation usually means no ceremony with family at the crematorium, saving you even more.

The second difference is that with a pure cremation, someone is in our care the whole time. With a traditional funeral, someone who has died might be collected by a funeral director, who may then use another company’s mortuary, and another company’s crematorium. You might not know which companies are involved or what their standards of care are.

But with Pure Cremation, we provide the whole service and the highest standards of care throughout. You can rest easy knowing who is looking after you – and because we’re performing the cremation ourselves, at our crematoria, we can often return ashes to loves ones (which we do personally and by hand, in an urn) more quickly than if someone uses a funeral director who will need to book a cremation.

We’ve created a side-by-side table so you can compare the similarities and differences between pure cremation and a traditional funeral.

What’s the difference between a pure cremation and a ‘direct cremation’?

Many funeral providers have started offering ‘direct cremations’. Like a pure cremation, they can save you over £2,000 compared to a traditional funeral, because they cut out the funeral director fees and crematorium ceremony cost.

But, in our opinion, they can cut corners too. Most ‘direct cremation’ providers use cheap, veneer coffins (we use solid pine, environmentally-friendly coffins).

‘Direct cremation’ providers also usually use a ‘temporary ashes container’ (ie a cardboard box) to return ashes. Whereas with a pure cremation, we give families the ashes in an urn they can keep forever.

When will you visit?

Urgent collection (when someone dies at home)
From the moment you call us, we aim to collect within 5 hours, but we’re often much quicker than that. Paperwork is obtained later, ensuring no delays for collection.

Non-urgent collection (when someone dies in hospital)
From the moment you call us, we aim to collect within 10 days. However, this is always dependent on obtaining the necessary paperwork from all parties involved. We will keep you updated on progress every step of the way.

When someone dies in a care home, community hospital or hospice, the collection could be urgent or non-urgent depending on the facilities.

What are your business hours?

If someone has died and you need to arrange a cremation – you can call our team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 0800 160 18 81

How long does it take to arrange a Pure Cremation funeral?

The initial call with us will take around 20 minutes, a member of our friendly team will take key information from you and complete the application for cremation for you.

The cremation will usually take place 13-16 days from instruction but is reliant on receiving all of the necessary paperwork from all parties. We will keep you updated on the progress every step of the way.

We then aim to hand-return the ashes of your loved one within 14 days of cremation.

What do I need to do when someone dies?

When someone dies, there are some practical steps that need to be taken, including things you need to do immediately.

Our free guide on ‘what to do when someone dies’ will tell you everything you need to know and has links to other online useful resources.

How much is a Pure Cremation funeral?

A Pure Cremation includes everything you need for a simple, unattended cremation for £1,595. We won’t try to sell you extra service or upgrades so you don’t have to worry about costs creeping up or having to make decisions.

What’s included?

  • All cremation fees, including removal of medical devices like pacemakers
  • Collection from anywhere in mainland England, Wales and Scotland (including the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Skye), 24/7
  • Transfer to the crematorium
  • A solid environmentally-friendly coffin (or a suitable alternative)
  • Larger coffin if necessary
  • An environmentally-friendly urn, decorated with a beautiful landscape image
  • A ceramic identity disc nestled in a holder within the lid of the urn - some people like to hold on to this as a keepsake
  • Return of the ashes by hand, or you can choose to have them scattered in our garden of remembrance

What happens at an attended cremation?

We do offer friends and family the option to come to our own crematoria to hold their own short service if they wish, so they can spend some quiet time with their loved one at the crematorium.

What will the ashes be returned in?

Ashes are returned in a specially designed, biodegradable urn wrapped in a beautiful landscape image. This is more sustainable due to being made of renewable raw material, and has a CO2 saving of more than 20%. The urn is included in your price.

How can I be sure the ashes returned will be my loved one's?

Pure Cremation is proud to go above and beyond the strict UK rules for identity checking. Each person we look after is given a unique identification code, which is scanned at each stage of care.

  • Each coffin’s identity is checked when it arrives at the crematorium. All data must match the documents submitted to the crematorium before it can be accepted
  • This identity is checked again, before the coffin enters the cremation chamber, and a ceramic disc bearing the specific cremation number is placed on the coffin
  • The identity is checked and logged again once the remains and the ceramic disc are removed from the cremation chamber
  • This identity is logged once more when the remains go through the final step: preparation to return to the family

Pure Cremation is one of the only direct cremation providers in the UK to use this visible proof of identity.

Do you need a death certificate to arrange a funeral?

We do not need a copy of the death certificate, but we will require the death to be registered. Once the registration of death has taken place, the registrar will produce a green certificate. Ask the registrar to send this directly to us at info@purecremation.co.uk. If this is not possible, please send a copy to us yourself, preferably by email. (You will not have a green certificate if the coroner is involved)
